Does anyone know how to display fractions in Visio 2003 ie. 18-1/2" not 1'
6-1/2" or 18.00 inches

Use the 0 #/# units format for your field values.

Hi Mark, Thanks for your response. Are you saying right click each dimension?
I would like to set the drawing with units if fractions. Could you please
explain more.
Thanks, Lew

If you are working with the dimension shapes, right click on the dimension
and choose Precision & Units. Then set the units to Inches and click OK.
Now choose Insert > Field from the main menu and change the field format to
0 #/#.

Hi Mark, Thanks againbut what I would like to do is set up the page so when I
add a dimensional line to show the size of a shape whithin that drawing it
would show in fractions. What I get is decimal and I can't change the page to
fractions only. I could always change each dimension to read whatever I want.
The problem with that is it is not to scale and if I change the shape the
dimension doesn't change. Do you know of a way to setup the page?

Thanks John, What I want to do is drag a dimensional line onto a drawing and
have it show fractions instead of decimals. I went to page set up and it
shows inches (decimal) and inches, I selected inches but still get decimals.
I tried changing the precision & units of the dimensional line but
"precision" selection only has 0.00 etc.
Could it be that Vision just doesn't have this capability?

It should be possible.

Masters are dragged from stencils to drawings. Once a master is dragged to a
drawing, a master is created in the documents stencil. If the look or feel
is not what you want, you have three choices:
1) Change the master on the stencil
2) Change the master on the document stencil - This will replicate across
all occurences of this master in this document.
3) Change the shape - This will only affect this occurrence of the shape.

The changes are the same, the only difference is where the shape is located.

The dimension shape can be changed to use a different format.

***************************************************

I just took a look at some of the dimensions in Visio (and there quite a
collection of dimensions). Most have been upgraded to use Custom properties
to control the formatting. For these shapes, you can modify the "Value" cell
to change the default value. If the format you want is not in the list, you
can add it to the format cell.

Hi John, I'm still perplexed. I could not change the master to read inches in
any situation. Could you try something for me? Go to Shapes>Visio
Extras>Dimensioning Engineering and then select Horizontal as a sample. Could
you change that master to read 16 7/8 when measuring a 16 7/8" long line as
an example? I could only get 16.88 if I go into precision & units and change
units to Inches or 1'-4 7/8" if I change units to Feet-Inch (1'-0").
