Fragmenting Problems

Linda Adams

I've been using the fragmenting operation to split some map shapes in half.
Most of the time, it changes the image to white and spilts it in half so I
can delete the side I don't need. But I'm also getting very inconsistent
results. One one map shape (Congo DRC), I get very different results,
depending on where I put the intersecting line. If I put the line where I
want to cut it in half, it turns the shape white and completely deletes the
half I want to keep. If I move more to the center, it turns it into an
outline, but doesn't cut in half--and I've had it turn it into an outline and
delete half of it (again, the half I want). I'm doing exactly the same thing
each time, except for placement of the line, and I don't understand why I'm
getting such different results when it works fine on other shapes.

My Visio is 2003, with all the patches and updates.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Hi Linda,

The problem here is the complexity of the shape.
I have similar results as you but I also get an error that the intersect
action can't be completed due to the complexity of the shape
The only way out is to limit the area, say you want to delete half of the
shape
first start with the half of that area until you can succesfully intersect
the shape
for instance for the bottom half of the congo shape I needed 3 intersect
actions
the left side of the bottom half and the right upper and bottom side of the
bottom half
