frames tutorial

Hello all.

I've created sites using shared borders w/ a nav bar, but would like to
create one w/ frames. I have FP03 running on an XP rig. I've read through
the FP Bible (02 version) and have FP03 for dummies. I can build the frames
page, and insert the header section frame, the footer section frame, but can
not create more than one page for the center section. I can't get other
pages to pop up there. Also, I've tried naming them all and then building a
TOC based on them but that doesn't come up correctly either. I want the TOC
in the L side frame. I do WYSIWYG, not html.

Any good step by step tutorials out there? I like this look and though I
can closely imitate it w/ a shared borders page, it's not quite the same.

Thank you!

Feldrew

Just create your other pagers as plain html pages and in your frameset add links to the new pages targeted for your "center" named
frame
- say from you header frame if that's where you want you navigation

FYI
FP nav view and navigation bars were not intended for use in frames

Also say, only use frames if they're essential to the site's operation. If
you can use includes etc to create sustained navigation on all pages, this
will make site design easier longer term, will help when people and search
engines link directly to pages within the web and will be viewed by many as
more professional.

Thank you Stefan - yes, I know to avoid nav bars in frames, which is why I
spoke of the TOC. I understand that's the way to do things w/ a frames
based web. I seemed to have a problem, to quote you, "in frameset add links
to the new pages targeted for the center named frame". I can't find a clear
explanation as to do that; I tried following the manuals I have and did
make these other independent pages but it just didn't seem to work. I also
tried category labeling all the pages (in this cas as miscellaneous) and
then building the TOC based on category but that didn't create a TOC.

I know I can get much the same effect if I use shared borders (it's easy to
generate the repeated header and footer, and I can easily create a
consistent nav bar along the left side) but I really like the "look" of the
frames based web.

I didn't realize that navigation view was not a real part of a frames based
web. I find the nav view a big help as a WYSIWYG page builder.

I'll keep trying - thank you!

In one of your frames use Insert Hyperlink and then set the hyperlink target (right click for hyperlink properties) to the frame you
want the link to show up in
