Framework error, plus unable to open Entourage

Hi,

After having some hard drive problems, I just wiped the drive and
reinstalled Office 2004, student and teacher edition. Now, whenever I
try to open Word, Excel, or Powerpoint, I get the following message:
"An unexpected error occurred while trying to load Microsoft Framework
Library". Thinking this might have something to do with Entourage
(which I generally don't use), I tried opening Entourage, and got the
following message: "This identity cannot be opened with this version of
Entourage". When I clicked OK, Entourage closed. Does anyone have any
idea if these two problems are connected, and what I can do to
alleviate them?

Thanks in advance,

I think I may have solved the problem myself. Thinking the two problems
might be related, I went to my documents folder and removed my Office
identity (documents:Microsoft User Data:Office 2004 Identities:"your
identity here". When I restarted Entourage, it went through the setup
procedure. I then opened Word again, and didn't get the framework error
described above.

Hope this helps someone other than me.

The proper way to fix this without getting rid of your identity is to quit
Entourage, go to /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor, and Quit Process
all instances of Database Daemon (and Microsoft Database Daemon). Also go to
System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items (Startup Items) and remove all
instances of Database Daemon. Then launch Entourage (which will re-launch
the correct Daemon for your current identity). Alternately, just do the
System preferences step, then log out and in or reboot, and launch
Entourage.

You had the wrong daemon (which is in charge of Office Notifications - i.e.
Reminders) open, from a previous identity. Most people would not want to
lose all their Entourage data by removing their identity folder, which is
not necessary. If you find you need any of that data yourself, rename the
identity folder you removed (so it won't overwrite the new one), put it back
into Office 2004 Identities, and in Entourage go to Entourage/Switch
Identities, and switch to it. You can drag out just about anything you might
need (messages, message folders, contacts, events, tasks notes, not groups,
rules, or schedules, though) to your desktop, switch identities back again,
and drag the desktop files in.

Thanks for the help. It turned out that I didn't really lose anything,
since all my data was in my old OfficeX identity folder. Besides, I
don't really use Entourage any more. I prefer Mail.app, along with iCal
and Address Book. That way, I can keep all my data syncronized on my 3
Macs.

Thanks for the help, though. I do appreciate it.
