Framework Library & Word with the spinning disk

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

I went on vacation last week and took my Power Mac G5 (Tower model) with me. When I reconnected the computer My 2004 Word was acting funny. I'd get a spinning disk when trying to open a document. I uninstalled and then reinstalled all of the Office 2004. Now I get the message that the Frame Work Library has an error. And I still get the spinning disk until Word is not responding and I need to Option-Apple-Delete and Force Close Word. Ive tried all day to get this going. I'm stumped I've tried all the reinstalling steps and done all the updates.

Help and Thanks

Hi Rob -

Framework errors are typically an indicator of missing updates - which you
say you've done - but perhaps something didn't "take". Fortunately the 11.5
updater was just released today so I'd suggest you repair disk permissions,
apply the new update then repair permissions again & restart your Mac.

Hi Bob,

I just returned from out of town and am again trying to rectify this problem. I try to do the updates but the browser keeps kicking me out. I've tried the browsers - Explorer, Safari and Firefox.

The message I get is:

Safari can't open the page "http://download.microsoft.com/downl...a67c-0486ce269322/Office2004-1121UpdateEN.dmg" because it can't find the server "download.microsoft.com".

When I try in Firefox the message is the same and when I use Explorer the message is the same.

You tell me to download the updates but when I find the update I can't download them. What is the problem???

I need to get my Office 2004 working again and I can't get the service pacs/updates whitout getting kicked out of the process.

Also can you tell me where I can check on my computer to see if the download was completed or which batch of downloads I still need? The auto updater says I need none but I know that not to be true becasue my About Word tells me I'm 11.2.

HELP! (and thanks)

Welcome Back!

I'm not sure why you're having the browser problem - I just clicked the link
in your last message & the updater downloaded automatically without a
hitch... But that's the link for the 11.2 update anyway which you don't
really need. Use this one to get the 11.5 updater:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953824

Once you apply it repair permissions & restart your Mac.

The "About Word" dialog will tell you about the Word build itself, but that
doesn't always reflect the same version number as other components of
Office. The version numbers can be a bit out of joint with each other
because not all components are affected by every update. However, 2004 keeps
track in: Applications/MS Office 2004/Update Logs, so you can check there to
see what updates have been applied.

On that same theme, AutoUpdate may be confused as to what level the entirety
of Office is because of the previous reinstallation actions taken. I'm not
sure, but it may just check certain key components & not recognize a need
for updates if those components are up to date - even though certain other
components aren't. Try the 11.5 & see how things go:)

I just returned from out of town and am again trying to rectify this problem.
I try to do the updates but the browser keeps kicking me out. I've tried the
browsers - Explorer, Safari and Firefox.

This fix seems to work:

Error: Cannot download Microsoft updates

Your ISP might be having a problem with the DNS servers. The fix is to go to
the TCP/IP in System Preferences and enter these settings:
68.87.64.196
68.87.66.196
209.188.112.3
63.81.160.11

Click apply and go back to the Microsoft Mactopia download page and get the
update.
