Free PowerPoint Viewer

J

Joy

I'm inquiring for a friend who does not have MS Office. I thought there was
a free PowerPoint Viewer for those who do not have Office. He tried to
download it, and it apparently downloaded OK, but when he tries to run it,
he gets a window asking for the number from the CD case, as if he DID have
Office! This all started because someone sent him an e-mail with a .pps
attachment, which he can't view. Any suggestions?

Carey,

He had already downloaded it, but kept getting the Product Key request. (I
couldn't think of the name when I said the number from the CD case - I meant
Product Key). He apparently had a 60-day MS Office free trial that came
with the computer (that he has never used). Even clicking on PowerPoint
there (Start-Programs-MS Office, etc.) asked for the Product Key. Well, he
doesn't have a product key, so how can he get around that?

Trial version probably expired.

Did he try uninstalling the trial version of Office?

No, he didn't. Do you think that if he did, the PowerPoint download would
work without asking for the Product Key?

I'd dump the trial version and the viewer, reboot, and download the viewer
again. But that's just me.

He found an icon with information how to START the free 60 day trial. Seems
the Product Key it's asking for is on a Works CD that came with his
computer. Now he has to find that CD! LOL

I have some reservations about the key for the trial version of Office being
on the Works CD but, if nothing else, it's a good excuse for him to find his
missing CD. You should ALWAYS know where your discs and product keys are.

I told him he needs a filing system! (Part of his problem is that he visual
problems - messed up cataract surgery, that's why he needs so much help.)

He sent me a copy of the information that opened when he clicked on that
icon, and it says this: (in part) - I'm looking at it:

". . . .the Microsoft Office Setup Wizard will prompt you to activate the
trial by entering the Microsoft Office Trial Product Key. You can find the
Product Key on the Microsoft Works Certificate of Authenticity, located on
the reverse side of the Works CD packaging distributed with your CD."
