Pete, Word doesn't let you rotate equation objects. Your only
option is to convert it to a graphic. The best way to do that is
to use the professional version of Equation Editor -- MathType.
With MathType, you can save the equation as a PICT or a GIF.
(PICT, preferably.) Word will let you rotate either of those
formats, but only if it is NOT set to be "In line with text". To
change it, ctrl+click on the GIF or PICT equation, then select
Format Picture > Layout > "In front of text". Then you can rotate
it.
(ps: Even if you change the properties of an equation object to
"In front of text", Word still won't let you rotate it.)
