Freeing Space

Like the previous poster I have lots of messages with attachments- filed over lots of folders.

I too need to free space (I'm with Nasstar and only allowed 500Mb)

How can I search for the largest attachments and then file these away?

This is easy with Outlook but I can't find a way in Entourage.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Please start your own thread the next time. Not all elements are the same so
this can result in confusing results and makes it hard to follow two or more
different people in the same thread.

The only way to remove the attachment on the server is to move the message
to a local folder (one under the 'on my computer' hierarchy), remove the
attachment then copy the message back to the exchange server.

Another option is to archive your messages to folders "On My Computer".
There is a script that works in Tiger but not Leopard (the first OP used
Leopard so now you can see where each topic needs to be in it's own thread)
to autoarchive your messages.

AutoArchive Exchange Account to "On My Computer"

Move all e-mail older than 60 days (date can be modified) from your Exchange
account folders to archive folders within the "On My Computer" folder tree.

Once you move the messages to your folders "On My Computer" you can use
these scripts:

Removing incoming attachments with one of the "remove attachment" scripts.
They will save, remove and link the saved files to the message, so you can
open the file directly from the message.

Also remove your outgoing attachments with a rule. This is assuming your
outgoing attachments are stored elsewhere on your computer. No need to have
them duplicated and filling up your database.

This is easy with Outlook but I can't find a way in Entourage.

I use Entourage groups to do this but it will only work per folder.

1. Select View --> Arrange By --> Edit Custom Arrangements...

2. Click the New button.

3. Custom Arrangement Name: Sort by size then by date
Group items by: Size
Sort groups by: Size, Largest on top
Sort items within groups by: Received, Newest on top
Default display for groups: Expanded

You'll now see groups headers like "Large", "Medium" and "Small"
arranged with the largest group on top.

I prefer to delete big attachments from the older messages. This way I'm
removing as few attachments as possible from my older messages, which
are less important to me.

Hope this helps!
