freezing in excel 2000 when accessing a document

When trying to access a workbook through excell 2000 the
progress bar come up as though it is accesing the
document but it freezes, the document opens on ecell 2003
why is it freezing in excell 2000 it has all the
latestservice packs on it and windows updates can anyone
help
