Freezing problem in Power Point and Word 2007

For the past month when I am typing in Word my document will freeze and I
usually lose what I have typed. This also happened in Power Point, I lost 3
slides. I have all the updates so I am not sure what to do. Help. I take
online college courses so when I lose what I have typed it is a pain
especially when creating a project or writing a paper.
