Frequency function

I am using Excel 2000.
I am trying to get the FREQUENCY function to work. I have 20 numbers in
a row from A1 to T1: 10, 7, 6, 10, 1, 8, 1, etc. This is the
data_array. Below that I have a column of numbers, 1 thru 10,
bins_array. Next to each number in the bins_array is
{=FREQUENCY($A$1:$T$1,$A$3:$A$12)}, array entered and extending one
cell extra (it goes to 11).
The problem is that every one of the results in the cells is the same
and equals the frequency of the first item, 3 for example. When I have
one of the formulas selected and click on the fx (Paste Function) tool
button, I can see the arguments listed to the right of where I entered
the ranges, and below that I see the correct result, an array like
{3;2;1;0;4;2;2;2;2;3;0} which is correct. (I can also view this correct
result when I click on the formula in the formula bar and press F9.)
But farther down in the form is "Formula result = 3" which shows for
every cell with the formula, which is not correct. Why does the formula
come up with the correct results but won't display them on the sheet?

Try pressing Ctrl + Shift + Enter after entering the formula, instead
of just Enter. This tells Excel that you are entering an array formula.

Just guessing at what you haven't said. If you separately array entered
this formula into each cell, then you will only get the upper left cell
of the array return in each of those cells. Instead, select the entire
output range and sumultaneously array enter the formula into all of the
cells (the $ is then unnecessary, though not harmful).
