Frequent crashes of IE when using Active X Control Project Centre

Hi all,
many of our users are quite frustrated with the number of crashes of
IE when using project centre. We have a large number of projects
running and using project centre views is the best way to navigate
through them and select them for editing.
We can easily reproduce the crash by selecting a cell in the project
centre grid then switching applications eg to Excel, it will crash.
We are using MS Project 2007, Project Server with the infrastructure
update being the latest update applied.
Do any newer updates address this issue?

I've not heard this reported as a systemic problem, so it is very likely
that this is unique to your environment. Is your company using a particular
browser add-in, perhaps for a custom application? Are the systems that
exhibit this behavior unique in some way that differentiates them from the
systems that do not display the behavior?

No to both questions as far as I know.
My IE version is 7.0.5730.13.
We have two instances of Project Server, one is more complex with many
more projects and more complex project centre views showing custom
fields.
The other is more generic.
The generic one seems to have less crashes as I understand it, though
I don't use it so I'm not that sure.
We use Sharepoint but we don't have custom browser add ins for it.
I'd really like to solve this issue as it is very annoying for all our
development managers and project managers.
Any suggestions, should I log it with Microsoft?

Thanks

Looking into this some more, actually it seems one of our instances of
project server I can't get to crash, but the other I can.
The project centre views in each look similar, though they each have
their own custom fields and different views.
I have uninstalled Yahoo toolbar as that seems to be suggested in some
places as an issue.
We are using Office 2003 and Outlook 2003, I have seen some
suggestions that a mix of 2003 and 2007 could be a problem.
I'm really interested to see that this is not a widely reported
problem, but it is pretty common here in our installation amongst the
people editng and publishing projects.

Anyone who has seen this issue and solved it I would love to hear from
you,

Caroline

On the troublesome system, do you have a great many custom fields? When you
say "crash" do you mean that IE stops working and needs to be restarted, or
are you referring to the views not rendering? If you are running SQL 2005 I
suggest that you install SP3 and if you are not already doing so, make sure
that your database maintenance plans are updating database statistics
periodically.
