frequent cursor change to hourglass in Word

About every 10 seconds when Word is open, the cursor changes to an hourglass,
then back to a normal cursor and quickly back to an hourglass again. It
isn't my autosave utility, which is set to save every 10 minutes. Any idea
how I can change this - or why it happens?
