Frequent FrontPage 2003 Crashes

P

Paul

I have just started using FP2003 and have been experiencing a number of
FP2003 crashed where you get the message that it has to close and is reported
to Microsoft.
This is now happening about 4-8 x per day, and inparticular when I edit the
readable text on my home page - kind of important.
I am running CP Pro SP2, and have Offive XP Pro SP3. ~640MB Ram and 2GHZ
Pentium - not top of the line, but not a slouch.....
Also - have you noticed - there seems to be no links to real support for
FrontPage - I just spent 15 minutes looking for help no luck.

Hi Paul,
Do you have an Anti Virus program, this sounds very familiar.
If you do can you run it to check for viruses since this sounds like a
"worm" that I had.
If you have no AV programm I will try to trace the worm I had and let you
know how I cleared it

Have you tried the usual repairs in the sequence below:
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
5) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,
6) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
