I had office 2003 and I went back to office 2000 and now
my .pst files are the wrong format. Does anyone know how
to fix this. I dont want to lose all my emails.

Did you elect to use the new unicode format that Outlook 2003 supports and
WARNS you specifically that this version is incompatible with prior versions
of Outlook? Yes? Your bad.

Open up Outlook 2003, create a new .pst file and select the option for a
97-2002 compatible format. Give it a distinctive name such as
priorversions.pst. Drag and drop your files to the older version of the
..pst file and then close it. When you reinstall an earlier version of
Outlook, select to use this file.

There is a reason that beta testers select to use a test partition and leave
their production machines alone. This is but one of them.

Yeah, well if you post answers to as many forums as I have lately where
folks don't read and understand the implications of beta software and
selecting the latest and greatest and use their PRODUCTION files, you would
have as little patience as I have lately.

Since the beta has RTM'd, there are numerous posts about going back to a
prior version and problems that it entails. Most of the folks who are
having problems used the newer version defaults despite the warning. Some
of the posts have been quite irritating and insulting. Sorry if I took it
out on you but there is only so much that one can take until some poor
unsuspecting person posts the "last straw" post asking about
incompatibilities that they were warned about.

I usually post anywhere from 50 to a 100 posts per day - try doing that and
not get irritated.

Okay, got that off my chest.

Now... I do apologize for coming off rather strongly about beta software.
It is not for the faint of heart or the uninitiated. Whenever you elect to
use a beta, use the overly cautious approach, do not accept all the new
bells and whistles as they might not last (witness the .lis from Office XP)
and back up your files before installing. And never use a production
machine unless you are willing to have to format and start over from scratch
once the beta software is removed.

Again, sorry for the rant (both then and now) and I hope that you don't feel
singled out. Lots of folks got both barrels that day and I expect to spend
some time tonight issuing apologies.
