from access 97 to 2000

In 97 I can assign a database to a variable i.e. "dim dbase as database" but
in 2000 the "database" option is not available even though the help files
says it is. Also when I type "database" as the data type I get the "user
defined data type is not defined." error. Is there a workaround?

From the code window choose References on the Tools menu.
Check the box beside:
Microsoft DAO 3.6 Database.
