Summary: the From Column appears blank for e-mails sent from a Personal
Folder while Cached Exchange Mode is unchecked
We're running Outlook 2003 on a WinXP Pro platform.
My colleague recently unchecked Cached Exchange Mode. Since then, whenever
he replies to or forwards e-mail from a Personal Folder (i.e., not the Inbox
or another folder on the Exchange server), the sent e-mail is listed in that
folder with nothing in the from column. However, if he opens the e-mail, the
header does correctly show who it's from.
If he re-checks Cached Exchange Mode and restarts Outlook, the problem goes
away (for newly sent e-mails). But that's not a desirable fix, because he
winds up with an out-of-date Global Address List.
We have seen several postings of this same problem to other help boards
(e.g., http://www.mcse.ms/message199806.html). Alas, no one has posted a
solution, but the problem appears to occur when people are working offline.
My colleague is not working offline. (Doesn't need to--he's got a desktop
computer on a fast LAN, and no PDA or other gizmos, either.) However, he
does inexplicably seem to have created a huge .ost file--which none of the
rest of us have--and hitting Send/Receive All in an attempt to synchronize it
doesn't populate the From Column.
Our IT people are stumped.
I'm sure some Outlook setting must be off somewhere, but my colleague
maintains that he hasn't changed any other settings from default. (In fact,
his assistant had to uncheck Cached Exchange Mode for him when he realized
his GAL was out-of-date.)
For the record: We are not running WinXP SP2, but I can't believe that's
got anything to do with this.
Does anyone out there have an answer? Thanks in advance!
