From field filled in

Hi and thanks in advance for this help. I am using Office 2003 with
Exchange 2003. I have a second mailbox setup in my profile. When I
reply to an e-mail sent to the other inbox, the From field is
automatically filled in with that name. So for example, if the other
inbox is "HelpDesk" and I reply to an e-mail in that inbox, the from
field is automatically filled in as "HelpDesk".

That's the way it is supposed to work. If you want the mail to be from you
rather than the mailbox who recieved the message, the 'easiest' solution
would be to just view the From field in your client and change it to your
address when replying to mails. Otherwise, I'd either set up a distribution
list rather than a seperate mailbox (tho you lose the whole 'Who has dealt
with this issue?' side of the equation), or maybe set the email address up
as a Public Folder and use that rather than a seperate mailbox.

from 5.5. Is this something new in 2003?

We also didn't want to have to change the From field everytime we go
to reply to the e-mail. We have a bunch of people checking an inbox
and when they reply, we want it to be from them, not the general
mailbox so the person knows who the reply is from.

This will suck if there is no way around it....this must be something
new to 03'

AFAIK, it's not related to Exchange at all. It's Outlook.

They don't need to change the from field data - they just need to delete
whatever is in there. Then it will go out from their own bad selves.

Right and that is what they have been doing, but we would prefer that
it not auto-fill at all. This changed one day in Outlook, not sure
why.

As far as I'm aware, this is an Outlook thing, and OL2002 and up have always
worked that way. If you were using an older version before you got E2003,
perhaps that would explain it.
Most people actually *want* it this way, in my experience - and they also
want to keep the sent items in the same mailbox so everyone can see who did
what. Check out www.ivasoft.biz (RightFrom and UniSent) for the only options
I know of to control any of this.
