Front Page 2000 Compatability with Windows XP

I recently bought a new computer with Windows XP and Microsoft Office Basic
2003. When I try to load my old Front Page 2000, my Outlook will not work.
Do I assume that my old 2000 is not compatible with my new computer software?

No, you should not assume that. I use FP2000 nearly every day as a
webmaster with a computer running XP Pro SP3. Shouldn't have anything
to do with Outlook.

OK...now where would I go for help. I have contacted Dell with no luck and I
have had to recover twice. When I try to connect to Outlook 2003 it takes me
directly to Internet Options. I have comcast cable, could that be an issue?

You stated that this is a NEW Computer.
Was Outlook working before you installed Frontpage?

Even if you install Frontpage or not, Outlook will prompt you with a setup
wizard upon initial launch.
It will need to know such things as connection type, user name, email
address etc.

On a New Computer out of the box, the internet will work just fine with no
configurations needed, but that is not the case for Outlook email.

If this is the case, Cable internet can be a factor.
Contact Comcast cable for the email setup and this should resolve your
issues.

Both programs should co-exists with no problems. The order of install is of
importance, but sometime you do not have a choice because it is a new
computer. So the work around for this is to perform a Frontage 2000 Web
Update first, then perform a Office 2003 Web Update second.

Hmm, one thing that drives me batty with my new Dell Media Center is
that I dont use Outlook and never configured it as an email client
because I use a different client.

But every time the pc starts, I get an alert popping up saying that
some message cannot be sent (dont ask me what message, it's not any of
mine) because Outlook is not configured as my default email client and
the current client cannot send the message, so please configure
Outlook and make it the default client.

Yah, in your dreams I'll do that! But I would like to find where that
message is lurking and wring its neck. It will probably turn out to be
some secret critical Microsoft license/usage message agreement that
never gets sent causing the computer to stop working entirely some
day.

As far as I am concerned the fact that my email client wont send some
message I know nothing about is 100% to its credit!!

Let me rephrase the issue as I see it using an metaphor.

I have this huge ottaman in my living room that people keep tripping over.
Especially my grandma, who comes over all the time. I never use the ottoman.
I have a lazyboy with its own built in foot rest. What should I do?

Well Kathleen, ok, you are suggesting, I guess, that the message
itself is an Outlook-generated message. I was assuming it was some
Microsoft system-generated message that just figured that Outlook was
always the email client of choice and so was set up to try to use it
but was too dumb to look for a different client.

I will try your suggestion and see if the message disappears

After thinking over what you and Kathleen said, I went ahead and
removed the ottoman. That seemed to work. My grandma hasnt tripped
over it since. Actually, grandma stopped coming over after that.

Who knew.
