Front Page design Issue

John Ford

When I design my web site in FP 2003 it looks different after I publish it.
I use layers and when I position them one way in design mode they are not in
the right spot after I publish. If it looks good in design mode it looks bad
after I publish it. So I have to make it work by moving layers around in
design mode even though they are on top of text. At least this way it looks
good after I publish it.
I am using a Dell wide screen laptop 15.4 inch. I have my resolution set to
1280x800 and large fonts.
Web site is www.gymfinity.com
I did not have this problem when I used FP on a desktop.
Any ideas?

First of all the space bar is not a design tool
- remove all the spaces and use table for your page layout
Secondly unless you have learned DHTML and CSS, don't use absolute positioning
- start here http://www.w3schools.com/

And remember your PC screen settings have nothing to do w/ the rest of the world's screen or browser viewport settings

So you are saying that I should start over and I should create 1 table for
the page layout. Can I use layers inside of the table?
I thought the web site was ok. I used to use tables but I thought using
layers was better and gave me more options.

Thanks,

Layers are just another option for design page layouts.

Do not use layers inside a table. Changing the browser window size,
or text size in the browser options, will have the effect of the
layers moving around the page (though actually it's the page contents
moving around the layers).

IMO, use floated divs (not layers) or tables, using layers creates a
totally inflexible layout.
Layers do have their place in a web page, but page layout is generally
not it.
