Frontpage 2000 - Security

Hi!
I'm using Frontpage 2000 for the first time running under Windows XP
Home.

I've created a web with a subweb and I want to restrict access to the
subweb. I've followed the Frontpage instructions (via Help) by setting
up registration screen, the regdb.txt in the private folder, etc., but I
don't seem to be able to set up the security permissions as the security
option is greyed-out on the tools measure. This is true for both the
parent and the subweb.

Can anyone advise as to why it is greyed-out, what I might be doing
wrong or offer any other advice?

You need to set the permissions on the live server "after" you publish.

You can't set permissions like this. You have to be connected directly to a
web server in order to set them. Since Windows XP Home doesn't support a
FrontPage-enabled web server, you're using disk-based webs instead so the
server options won't be available. You have to connect directly to your host
in order to set permissions. You cando this by using File | Open Web and
entering in the URL that you would normally publish to. Then the server
option is enabled, probably. I say that because your host still ahs the
optoin of setting your account up to prevent this feature from being
accessed (a lot of buggered permissions happen from people playing with this
and it costs the hosts money in support time to fix it). Also, if your host
is using Windows-bsaed servers, the registration components won't work
because they really don't present any security whatsoever and they violate
the security model of Windows systems.
