FrontPage 2002 Reinstallation problem

My reinstallation problems are HALFWAY fixed. I'm now able to install
FrontPage 2002, and the installer says it has completed successfully. But
when I start the program, I get the message: Microsoft FrontPage is not
installed properly on this system and cannot function. Please reinstall
Microsoft FrontPage.

I've already worked my way through the steps on this page which addresses
the problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;325054
That's uninstalling the program, removing files / directories, editing the
registry, checking for current Windows Installer version, and reinstalling
FrontPage.
Still getting the identical erro message.

Win 98SE / MS Office 2000 also on system. All programs were functioning
fine before reinstallation of Windows and creation of new registry.

Other suggestions? Files or registry entries this Knowledge Base article
may have missed?

If you re-installed Windows, then no application are technically installed, even if actually still
on your HD. The best solution would have been to reformat, re-install Windows, and then re-install
all applications. Application the store values in the registry may appear to work correctly for a
while.

Thomas,

Right; that's exactly why I'm reinstalling FP2002 from disc. Problem is
that when it starts, it gives this error message that even a complete
uninstall / registry fix per the Knowledge Base instructions doesn't
eliminate.

I may be missing removing something from the previous install; any idea what
it might be?

Uninstall FrontPage

Go here: http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm and download, install and run RegSeeker
and use the Clean the Registry function.

Make sure it's set to Backup the entries it deletes.

Restart the machine and run the FP install.

Thanks, Steve! That did it, but what an ordeal.

(BTW, that's the best registry cleaner tool I've seen -- found lots of
obsolete / missing references that others had missed. Thanks for the link!)

For future reference for others who have this problem -- I ended up deleting
EVERYTHING -- files and registry -- having to do with FrontPage AND Office
2000 Pro. The KnowledgeBase article on this problem (linked above) didn't
even come close to finding all the FrontPage registry entries... and didn't
work.

Then did a totally clean install of FP 2002 wihout a previous version on the
computer by swapping the Office installation disk into the CD when the FP
upgrader went looking for a "qualifying product". That did the trick; then
just reinstalled the rest of Office 2000, minus FP.
