Frontpage 2003 Corrupting HTML Entities

I'm using Frontpage 2003 with SP1. When I save a HTML file with the HTML
entity "©" in the source, it converts in to the copyright symbol character ©
in the saved file. Why is this happening? Failure to leave the code as I
wrote it reduces compliance with standards and consequently interoperability.
It gets worse too - if I close the file and open it again, Frontpage seems to
have added other spurious characters before the unwanted copyright symbol so
I end up with something like: "©" (without the quotes) in my source code.
Other entities such as á seem to be converted to garbage as well. Why is
Frontpage interfering with my source HTML in this way? Can I make it stop?

Sorry, the entities I'm using didn't display correctly in my first post.
Basically, when I have an entitiy such as "& copy;" (without space) in my
source it is being converted to "©" (without the quotes) by Frontpage.
Similarly, other entities such as "& euro;" and "& aacute;" are also
converted to garbage after I save them and reload them within Frontpage. My
machine's default input locale is English(United Kingdom) and the files are
being saved to a web on my local machine. Can I stop Frontpage from modifying
my source code entities when I'm saving?
