FrontPage 2003 FTP Problems

I am attempting to publish a website using FTP and I can get FrontPage to
connect however, the folder listing does not display properly. I have been
told that this is because the FTP client that FrontPage 2003 uses has
mis-detected the FTP Server.



I can use WS FTP Pro Version 8.03 to connect to this server, and the folders
are displayed correctly both on the Server and the personal computer side. I
have listed the connection information provided by WS FTP Pro in the hopes
that this will give some insight into the problems that I am experiencing
and possibly lead to a solution that would allow me to publish the website
using just FrontPage 2003.

I can connect to the site without a problem using FTP. The issue is in the
displaying of the folders:

It is my understanding and my experience that ftp "corrupts" the FP server extensions. There are several Knowledge Base articles to this effect. Using FTP results in your having to reinstall FP extensions. There are some hidden extension folders that FTP cannot replace correctly. FP was intended to be use with http publishing, which communicates with the extensions. FTP cannot communicate or interface with the extensions.
The reason that you are getting different results on different Unix servers is because one has the extensions properly installed and the other does not.
What is obvious to me by looking at the text you pasted, is that the first is using only Unix parameters while the second is attempting to get its instructions from the FP extensions. I think that I would find out from each admin what version of the extensions are installed. There are also several other patches, upgrades, etc. that must also be installed but that would require a little research to come up with the list from the MS FP Products department.
My fundamental question is why are you using FTP? Why do you not want to use http?

Thanks for the reply. The device that I am attempting to FTP to is a
embedded server that does not support the FrontPage extensions. I have had
extensive discussions with Microsoft in attempting to resolve this issue and
in the end, they indicated that it is a issue of compatibility between
FrontPage and the embedded server. Since FTP Pro and other FTP Clients
properly works with this server I can only assume that the compatibility
issue resides on the Microsoft FrontPage side.

What type of embedded server are you having the issues with? Can you give me the general specs of it?
Also, have you published this same web to any Windows or Unix based servers supporting FP extensions and were you successful? (I am referring to the http publish feature of FP not ftp.) Were you able to see the correct file structure on both sides in the publish dialog box?
