Frontpage 2003 no longer edits the website live.

Richard

We have a Server 2003 environment running Active Directory which still has a
website hosted on an NT4 server in the domain. I mention that in case this
move had something to do with the problem.

I used to be able to open up Frontpage 2003 and then open the site and edit
the pages live. Frontpage would, of course, prompt me for the logon
credentials. We let the site sit for a couple of months as no updating was
needed. After this time, someone wanted some new information put on the site.
However, when I go to open the site via Frontpage, I get this error:

"You don't have permission to access this Web Folder location."

No prompts for a logon like before, just this error. I am a member of the
administrators and domain administrators group. I have also verified on the
IIS manager that I am a user who can edit pages. Just because I have seen it
mentioned before in reference to this, allow annonymous access is turned on.

Here is the weird thing. If I log on to the computer with the domain
administrator account and try to open the site in FP, I get a different
error, again with no logon prompt:

"The folder [url removed] isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an
unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains a /
or \."

The user computer has Windows XP SP2 and FP 2003 SP1 installed on it. FP
Server Extensions seems to be working fine on the NT4 server. FYI, one of our
2003 servers has IIS on it, but not yet configured and I can open the site
with no problem. It prompts me for a logon and goes through.

Any ideas? I have searched the web with no luck. Thanks.

Reinstall the FP extensions on the web. They could be corrupted (they do
that sometimes).

Clear out _ALL_ temporary and cache files. c:\temp, temp internet files,
delete "frontpagetempdir" folder. (Try from a different computer if you
can.)

Make sure a security patch or a user did not modify the security settings in
IE. Tools, Internet Options, Security, Custom Level. There are some
options in there that will cause IE (and thus FP) to not prompt when the
server asks for user/pass.

The folder "http://Website" isn't accessible. The folder may be located on
an unavailable volume or protected with a password.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried them all but reinstalling the
extensions. I'll probably do that this evening. I wanted to let you know that
the other items didn't have any effect.

Thanks,
Richard
