frontpage 2003: no prompt for username and password

When i go to edit my webpage from the internet, in Frontpage 2003, it does
not prompt me for my username and password. but opens half of my website, yet
doesn't give me the option to publish it. i have only edited once before,
about 6 months ago, and cannot find any trace (except pictures) of it on my
harddrive. if my website was accidentally erased from the harddrive, could it
still exist online? if so, how can i get it back on my harddrive for editing?
and how can i get to the point where i enter my username and password?

when i try to open the site in frontpage, it says that it is unavailable,
that the folder is in an unavailable location, it is protected by password,
or it contains a / or \.
and i know the username and password, so i don't know what else to do.
