Frontpage 2003 pages are VERY VERY SLOW

I created a company website and ALL the pages have slow sections to it - I
have uploaded them into a remote server and when I go onto the website myself
- it takes them quite a while to load up. Can I speed it up somehow? It is
not a server issue.

Thanks,

Usually this is due to the size of images and other binaries in the page.

Too many images. I checked the New Products page and here are the results.

Unique images: 136
Total images: 138
Total bytes: 939345

Image loading will take about:
589.9 seconds @ 14.4
294.95 seconds @ 28.8
151.84 seconds @ 56K

Your products page (with its 136 images) weighs in at nearly 1.3MB - this is
about 300 times as large as it should be. And it's only a menu!
The page alone, at 104KB, is 5 times the size I consider a maximum for a
bare page (no images).
It is time to rethink your use of Interactive Buttons.
Also, the jpg buttons being used are huge (in bytes) - I suggest using gifs
since these appear to be smaller. (7K-10K as opposed to 1K-2K).

A CSS button is much smaller than an image.

On the other hand, your home page is about right - 20K for the HTML and 19K
for images.

Hi Ronx,

Thanks a lot!

Did you notice the other pages also were slow or was this the only one? I
find that the pictures take a little while to load up (i.e. the logo at the
top right corner)

I only looked at the Products page and Home page.

I have now looked at all pages in the left menu, all but the products page
loads fairly quickly (less than two seconds on ADSL, equivalent to 20-25
seconds on dial-up - but I don't have a stop watch...)
However, the analogue meters page is slow - again a very large page (39K)
plus images (72KB)

One problem you will have is the use of VML graphics (Word Art, Text Boxes,
Drawing objects). Mozilla Firefox renders the down-level image equivalent
badly. The VML code is only visible in IE5.5 and later, and adds a
substantial amount of code to the page. Convert the VML to a real graphic
by pasting a screen dump into a graphics program, and saving as an optimised
..jpg or .gif

There is no logo on the top-right on any page, unless you mean the image on
the new-products page, which will be held up by the buttons.
