Frontpage 98 Error

James Kadzidlo

Hi,

I have recently upgraded my PC from Win98 to XP.
I have re-installed Frontpage 98 however each time I run
frontpage and try to access my web pages I receive the
message 'this operation requires author permission,
username and password are required'.
However I have never set a username or password for my
web page (as far as I know), when I was using win98 it
would go straight into the web page with out requesting a
username or password?
Help please.

If you upgraded to Windows XP Home, then you do not have support for running a web server, which
FP98 was designed to be used with.

Win XP does not support PWS and the FP SE
(only Win XP Pro supports IIS for the FP SE)
FP98 works best under the FP SE
- uninstall PWS from FP98

Which version of Win XP are you running?
If Win XP Home you are limited to disc based webs unless you upgrade to FP2000 or higher
- FP98 is painful interface since you need to type the full path to the disc based web
If Win XP Pro install IIS and the FP SE

I'm running XP Home purchased 2 months ago.
So i'll need to upgrade to Frontpage 2000 or later to be
able to access my web site from XP?

Recommend you upgrade,
but you should still be able to access your online site in FP98 on Win XP Home
and in your local site as a disc based web by entering the full disc path to it
