Frontpage extensions?

Janet Costidell

I am using Frontpage 2003, and always have done. My account with Lycos was
upgraded without my knowledge, so this week, I have had it downgraded to a
cheaper, less unnecessary package. To do this, Lycos removed my website
temporarily. I paid the fee on Monday, and it still isn't back in action.

I just spent 30 mins on the telephone to their support, they now say the
reason I can't upload my site is because I am using FP 2003, and the
extensions are useless. What can I do? They worked on Monday, and have
worked for the past year on 2003, getting really miffed now.........

did lycos at *any time* support Frontpage Extensions? If so, what version?

FP 2003 should still publish your web with extensions back to 2000, but of
course, won't support features added in FP2002. Fp2003 doesn't have any
additional features (well it does), none using the FPSE - it actually uses
the FP2002 SE.

I have an upgraded web through tripod/lycos, and my extensions work just
fine.

in message You don't have any extensions at that URL. Maybe what they are trying to say
is that your new "less unnecessary" package you downgraded to *doesn't*
support FP extensions?!

That may be true, but the OP's site: http://www.flintanddenbighrc.com/
appears to be on Apache without extensions.

Oh, how I wish I knew what that means...... :)

I have now managed to get the site up and running via FTP, but the form
confirmation pages don't work. Also, I don't really understand FTP and
would much rather publish via frontpage, the way I have been doing for the
last year. When I click on publish site, I get a box saying 'Frontpage
Authentication', with a username in it, but no password. I type in the
password, and it just comes up blank again. Also, in tools>server, the word
server is permanently greyed out. Which password does Frontpage want as
authentication? Is it the one I use for Lycos?

No FP extensions or no publish with FP's http mode, then no features that require the FP authoring
or run-time extensions will be available, such as forms, guest book, search, discussion web,
subwebs/subsites, some features of shared border and link bars.

Ok... if you type in http://www.flintanddenbighrc.com/_vti_inf.html it will return a page that tells
you if you have, or don't have, Frontpage extensions installed - your site does not.

I'm guessing that when you downgraded your lycos web account you now do NOT have extensions
available to you.

Downside?:
You can't Publish via http:// method, you have to use FTP.
When you use FTP you will have to know which files to upload.
You won't be able to Open your site "live" either.
FP forms probably won't work.
You will not be able to use a few other features either.
