Frontpage hidden files

K

Ken Mc

When viewing website in FP 2002, whether local or "live" , certain files
such as: "*pagename_files" do not show up, except at the "open web" dialog
prompt.
When attempting to delete at this location, I get the message (para-phrased)
"folder is part of a thicket - perform appropriate operation on the main
thicket file"

They are on my server and when I delete them from server, they re-appear
when publishing with FP2002 again. (Of course)

These "mystery" files only contain some wordart character files that are not
existant anymore.
How do I locate and remove these files from the web using FP?
Thank you for any advice.

I think it's best to delete files in your
local web and then publish.
FrontPage "should" prompt you as to
whether you want to delete the files on the server.

I agree. It's just that this was the only way I could delete them.
Now they are back , but are unneccessary files now.
I was in the process of installing an index page in these subdirectories to
prevent browsing , but couldn't access them except through the server's
control panel.

Thickets are folder associated w/ a File
- save a Word doc as filename.html and if there is any imbedded content (images, etc) they are saved in the thicket folder:
filename_files
Windows Explorer Tools Folder Options View and look at the help on Manage files as pairs
- if set as manage as pairs you can not manipulate the thicket folder
(delete the file and Windows deletes the associated folder too)
- if set as manage individually, in FP 2002 you should see and be able to manage the files in the thicket folder

Thanks! I'll print out for future reference.

Last night , I ended up "creating new page - based upon old page" , deleting
the old page from web, and then going to web settings, advanced tab and
deleted the temp files. All gone!
Thanks for the help.
