FrontPage problems

Hello:
I'm beginning to have a great number of problems publishing with FrontPage.
I have several websites, but the hosting services seem to be implying that
FrontPage is no longer being supported by Microsoft. I am having problems
with password protect, and simply canNOT publish one site. PowWeb seems to
have only excuses and each time they must reinstall FrontPage Extensions.
Upon doing so I lose password protection. But of late I cannot even publish!
Unix servers seem to have problems with FrontPage, although I have several
sites published with FrontPage. But, after reading some of their
"disclaimers," I'm wondering if they really support FrontPage any longer?
I noticed that Microsoft has a couple of pieces of software which may be
replacements for FrontPage? Is that true? If so, is FrontPage basically no
longer supported? I have FrontPage2003. I thought I had a good product, but
now I'm wondering if I have a "white elephant?"
If FrontPage is on the way out, or no longer really supported, what are my
alternatives? I use FrontPage, FrontPage Extensions and I believe
SharePoint. I noticed there is something called Microsoft Expression Web.
Is that an upgrade and the path I must follow? If so, is it a simple upgrade
and fully supportive of FrontPage 2003? And, what about Microsoft Office
SharePoint Designer? Is this the avenue I must follow, etc.?
I really need help.

Hi

I asked a question here a while ago about this sort of thing. After advice
I now use a company called www.asp-host.co.uk

I have 6 website (1 with 17 sub sites) and I don't seem to have any
problems. You could look at thier site and see what you think.

I DO NOT get any thing from them to say this - and if they mess up I will of
course say so. But up to now it's been ok.

I certainly appreciate your comments. I will look into this option... but
unfortunately, right now I have one big mess!

FP is still supported. What is no longer being supported is the FP extensions under Unix/Linux. The
replacement for FP will still work with the FP extensions for publishing if they are installed,
otherwise just like FP, you can publish via FTP.

that FrontPage is really no longer fully supported, and that there are
significant problems involving .htaccess, wouldn't you agree?
Is there an upgrade... something I can convert all that I have without
reinventing the wheel, or has Microsoft left us holding the bag, so to speak?

I have very disappointed, and that is putting it mildly.

Just because the extensions are no longer supported by MS (except for
windows 2003 servers and upcoming for IIS7), doesn't mean hosts will have to
discontinue using them. Some will, some won't.

Supporting of FrontPage is different than support of the extensions. MS is
going to support FP for a few more years.

Your issues appear to be on the host's end.

Oh, you don't know how many times I have "informed" them, the hosting
service, that they created these problems...

I had created a very complex password protected website, with password
protection imbedded within. This was done using FrontPage password
protection, but PowWeb messed it up and now I can't even publish. Obviously
they do not use Microsoft servers. And now they suggest that I must use
their utility for password protection... and, everytime extensions have to be
reinstalled, password protection is lost and I must republish. I tried this
long ago, but I never knew when I actually had password protection for the
site. What a mess. I banked on FrontPage for all of my websites, but
password protection has become a nightmare, needless to say.

Thanks for your insight and comments.

Btw, is there a fully compatible upgrade for FrontPage that is/will be
supported?

Hello!

I am writing because I, too, have trouble publishing my web page via
FrontPage. What would you advise? After hours of troubleshooting, I think the
problem is with FrontPage server extensions on my computer. I don't know how
to fix those because for some unknown reason, when I go to open the web files
on my computer, I receive the following error message: "Documents in this
folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or
network problems may be preventing a connection to the server." I have
neither moved nor deleted anything, so...I wonder how you might tell me to go
about addressing connectivity problems that seem to have arisen out of
nowhere (everywhere in the office, too!)

When you publish to an online hosted server running the FPSE
- you do not use the FP SE on your PC for disc based webs
- you are publishing to the hosted server FP SE

Explain where you are publishing from/to
- provide the URL of your site

The only time you run the FP SE on your PC is if you are publishing to/from a local server running under IIS and the FP SE on you PC
- if this is the case, provide the OS and version of FP SE (not the version of FP) that you have installed on your PC
