Frontpage remove Theme code from FrontPage 4.0

Dan J

How can I stop FrontPage 2003 from remove all of my theme code (javascript)
from a FrontPage 4.0 page? When I open a page (local or remote) Front page
remove all theme info. I want to edit the older pages but I cannot find where
to make FrontPage 6.0 compatible with 4.0 code.

Any help much appreciated.

You must open the web / site in FP2003, not just a page. This will allow FP2003 to re-create the
FP2000 theme, in the FP2003 format if a newer version of the existing theme is not available in
FP2003

Thanks for the quick response. I was thinking that but was afraid to do it.
BTW, there are no FP extensions on this server system will that matter?

Yes, it will matter! If there are not FP extensions on the live/remote server FP will not be able to
rebuild the theme, navigation structure, shared borders, include pages, etc. You will have to manual
redo those unless you have a local FP copy that you can open in FP.

Ok, we are going to test this all on my local XP Pro box and on the Windows
2003 server with a new subfolder of the origianl site. Then we discovered we
don't have FPSE 2002 installed, just 2000. OK, so we have looked all over the
place for where to get FPSE 2002 and cannot find it anywhere - XP PRO
DVD/Windows 2003 DVD/ Frontpage 2003 DVD.... etc. MS has a site to do
download the FPSE 2002 - BUT
When you go to download it will not allow it.
Download (version 5.0.2.2623) - it presents a page that says:
"The download you requested is unavailable. If you continue to see this
message when trying to access this download, go to the "Search for a
Download" area on the Download Center home page. "

So where do you get FPSE 2002?? I really nned to get this site updated and
all FP 2003 does is wipe out all the themes and that includes ALL javascript
that was put in buy FP 4.0. FP 2003 cahnges the GENERATOR Meta tag to 6.0 and
will NOT allow any changes.

Anyway the short question is: where can i get FPSE 2002?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Under Windows XP Pro you are limited to only having the FP2000 extensions since MS has removed all
downloads of the FP extensions.

Under Windows 2003 Server, you have the FP2002 extensions on the Windows 2003 Server CD. These
FP2002 extensions can only be installed under Windows 2003.

I think I am wondering about the same thing as Dan. I have tried to place
javascript code in a theme (top-border) with the intention of making it work
on all pages (f.i. a function for bookmarking given pages). The problem seems
though that FrontPage 2002 (whici I use) removes the Javascript code from the
theme (even when I open the site and edit it (all other changes stays though).

You must insert the JavaScript code after the opening body tag, as only the page content that is
between the body tags is included in other pages.

Thanks, Thomas,

But does that mean that there is no way to add javascript code that will
automatically be available on all pages? Initially we hoped using the themes
for making that possible. F.i. a button for bookmarking or emailing reference
to given page.

No, as long as the code can work when inserted between the body tags of the shared border page, in
this case your top shared border page.
