FrontPage Server Error

Manny

We get the following error when we try to connect to an
Access database in the parent web from a sub web (the
connection works fine in a sub folder and in the parent
web, but does not work in a sub web):

Server error: Unable to retrieve the list of record
sources from a database using the connection string:

DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver
(*.mdb)};DBQ=https://hrforms.pps.k12.pa.us/HR_Forms/fpdb/tr
ansfer_val2.

The following error message comes from the database driver
software; it may appear in a different language depending
on how the driver is configured.

FP subwebs are completely independent webs under a root web. You will either have to use a System
DSN or you will have to have the host remove the application root setting off the subweb which FP
will recreate anytime you publish or edit the global.asa file.

I prefer to use System DSNs, then I never have to worry about the path to the database no matter
where I need a connection within the site.

Thomas,

Thanks for your reply. Could you please elaborate on how
we can use a System DSN or how we can remove the
application root setting off the subweb which FP
will recreate anytime we publish or edit the global.asa file.

Manny

1. To create a system DSN, you need admin access to the server, then under control panel, admin
tools, select Data Sources....

2. To disable the application root, again you need admin access to the server, then under IIS MMC,
select the web, then right click properties, then under home directory tab, at the bottom, you
delete/remove the application root settings. You may also have to manually change the global.asa
file or delete it.

At this point I can't provide you with any additional help, because I always use a System DSN to
connect to databases and create a application root for all subwebs.
