"I'm pleased to announce that we have released a beta version of the FPSE
extensions for IIS7. We partnered together with Ready-to-Run Software to
update the FPSE extensions to enable them to work with IIS7 on Windows Vista
as well as the latest Longhorn Server Beta 3 release.

You can download the beta release from IIS.NET's DownloadCenter here:
http://www.iis.net/downloads/default.aspx?tabid=34&g=6&i=1460. Join the
Publishing Forum on IIS.NET forums for questions and answers related to FPSE
on IIS7."

At last. After three days of trying to get the local copy of my old
FrontPage web to serve up its ASP database pages in Vista after installing
IIS7 (everything worked pretty much out of the box, except the Access
Database Results and the Hit Counter (! - which should have tipped me off
right away that the FP server extensions didn't get installed with IIS7).

So this is just what I was looking for ... I thought.

Except it won't install!

The extensions themselves seem to install OK but, when the installer gets to
the "required IIS7 components," the whole thing bombs out with an error
message saying "Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer
package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.
Contact your support personnel or package vendor" - and then it rolls back
the WHOLE install. Grrrrr!

The annoying thing is I've already installed all of the required IIS7
components myself, according to the Requirements posted at your web page, so
that last step wasn't even needed. Sure would be nice if there was a way to
turn that off -- even nicer if the problem could be fixed?

Since this is marked as a Beta project, I trust there will be updates. Any
idea when - and if installer issues are in line for a fix?

In the meantime - would it be feasible to install the ORIGINAL FrontPage
2002 Server Extensions in my current Vista environment (keeping in mind that
I've installed all the required IIS7 components, according to your list)?
Or would that be asking for disaster?

Thanks.

You will not (and should not) install any prior versions of the FP SE on Vista

There is no information available on the beta other than the link I gave
you. I don't know of many people who have been successful, which is why I
recommended you use them at your own risk.

No other version of the FPSE will work with IIS7.

Sorry, I thought I was addressing someone named Kathleen Anderson and, by
the wording of the original post, that she was part of the team that
developed and released the program. (The message was written in the first
person and signed by her, so I assumed I was asking in the right place.)

Apologies.

Sorry. I had answered a similar post, and got confused. No, she is not
part of the team that developed and released the program. She was simply
providing you the information.
