Ok... I've got a sinking feeling in my stomach, but I certainly hope someone
here can help me do away with it.
My company licenses Sharepoint as a platform for project management. We also
have information stored in an Oracle database which I want to pull into my
Sharepoint site. It uses ODBC connectivity. I heard about the Data View Web
Part and figured "neat! I can use FrontPage and standard database
connectivity to pull this information into a nice little web part!"... but
after numerous attempts to create my own connection string I am at a loss.
Then I read a post that seemed to say that Sharepoint is not compatible with
ODBC?!?!
I need some info and I'm hoping you all can help. Some questions:
1) Is this true? Is Sharepoint not compatible with an Oracle ODBC
connection? Say it aint so!
2) If the answer to #1 is "yes, sorry sucka" then what options do I have? Is
there some creative way to translate data stored in ODBC into a connection
format that will work with Sharepoint? In other words, if it aint out of the
box, is there a hack or work around that I can employ to achieve my goals?
3) Why the hell is this so difficult? Proprietary competitive bullsnap?
4) Can I swear up a storm in this forum? (I erred on the side of caution in
#3)
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I mean GREATLY appreciated!!
thanks!
