FrontPage XP unresponsive when opening my local webserver

Noel - A lot of us are having those problems. Try using the Add and Remove
Programs from the Control Panel and remove Security Update KB908531. Be sure
to have that box checked at the top to display those. That fixed my problem.
I then turned off Automatic Updates.

Hello Richard,

Thank you very much for your reply. Uninstalling the security update did fix
the issue of FrontPage being unresponsive when I open my website but now I
have hundreds of unnamed icons in the Folder List and none of my files and
folders. I tried to restore my website from a backup but the problem still
happens.

In the meantime I did attempt to reinstall the server extensions then the
whole IIS, still to no avail.

Would you have an idea how I could recover my website? Thank you.

I made a new attempt and another restart. Now I can see my folders and files
but I still haves those hundreds of unnamed icons in the Folder list between
my folders and my files. The first times I attempted to delete some of those
icons (some cannot be deleted) that wiped my whole website. Any suggestion
is very welcome. Thank you.

Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and download FP Cleaner.
Download links are at the bottom of the page.
Run the functions that clear:
The FrontPage Temporary files.
The Cache (*.web) files.

See if it helps.

If not, do you have TweakUI installed??
If so, run the Rebuild icons feature from the Repair section.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for your reply. The cache files were the problem (3 files were moved
to the Recycle Bin). I can now successfully open FrontPage and edit my
website with all the current security updates installed. Thanks again.

Office Pro XP SP3
Windows XP SP2

Hello,

Since yesterday my FrontPage suddenly becomes unresponsive when I attempt to
open my website on my local server (IIS and FP are on this same PC). This
configuration has worked fine for years. I did not install anything since
the last security patches from Microsoft Update.

I tried the following steps to no avail:
- repair FP
- uninstall and reinstall FP then reapply Office XP SP3
- stop my antivirus
- use System Restore to restore a working point

Before reinstalling FP, it was consuming about 100% CPU and all 2GB RAM I
have in a few seconds and halted with a exception error message. After
reinstalling FP, it consumes about 50% CPU "forever" but does not seem to
consume RAM anymore.

FP seems to read the files from the server and hangs after displaying the
folder pane and the root "http://myserver" but no folder or files.

I'm totally stuck now, could you please suggest some ideas how to fix such
an issue? Thank you.
