FrontPage98

Recently, we changed our servers to Windows Server 2003. Part of the change
included moving an existing Intranet created on FrontPage 98. We can view
the Intranet just fine but when I try to modifiy the content using FrontPage
98 I'm faced with the following: "this operation requires end-user
permission" and a prompt for entering in a username and password. I've tried
all of the possible passwords but none work. How can I regain access to my
Intranet so that I can edit content?

How did you move the intranet to the new server, as it should have been published via FP?

It needed to be published from one location to another via FP's File Menu | Publish Web command.

So can I recover from this? I'm trying to create a new FrontPage Web using
the existing Intranet pages. I'm pointing to the location on the server
where the existing files reside and I keep getting the password prompt.

You have to be able to open the original web in FP and then publish to the new location/server which
has to have the FP extensions installed and configured correctly.

I cannot open the original web in FP due to the password issue. Do you know
of a workaround. I have complete access to the folder and the files on the
server. How can I use those files to re-create the Intranet using FP?

Are you saying that you don't have access to the original site on the original server, only the copy
that has been placed on the new server?

Without the login, you would have to create a new web site, then import the page from the current
folder into it, then you would have to rebuild the navigation structure, re-apply any themes and
shared borders, etc.

Yes, I'm saying that the server was rebuilt when we put the new OS on it.
The Intranet files were backed up and then restored onto the new server. The
original site is indeed gone. Since I now have no hope of coming up with a
password to satisfy FrontPage I believe your response below would be the
solution. It's silly that FrontPage employees that kind of security to an
Administrator, but anyway.... Thanks for your help.

The problem is that the permissions and extensions are different between the different Windows
Server versions, and the only way to have maintain permissions and login info, would have been to
have upgraded the original server to Windows 2003 Server with the web sites intact.
