frontpages lack of support

Why are their no meta tag keywords or meta tagged content dealing with
our subject matter with frontpage written websites. All I see when I
view the source page on my webpage is junk for microsoft. Microsoft
appears to be using my site and money to create a way to piggy back
their way into more exposure to their own company.

Does anyone know how to over write the code on the source page so as
to add a few lines of crawler material for us. I have tried inserting
a keyword line in but MS removes it.

What's the link to your site?

Do you mean you want resources on FP? Plenty of links on
http://accessfp.net/

Most web editors stick in a meta tag ... though not all.

What version of fp do you have? There are different methods for removing
them.

Hello Tina
Let me clarify, I am not well versed in computers by any estimate so I
will give a couple of examples.
The first example is what appears on my websites index page. The
second example is what appears on another websites index page. In the
second example it is my understanding that the keywords content and
description content that help web crawlers to direct searches to a
website.

Example 1 mine copied
<meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0">
<meta name="ProgId" content="FrontPage.Editor.Document">

Example2 copied
<meta name="description" content="Hoists, Dock Levelers, Cranes,
Conveyors, Shelving, Benches, Pallet Trucks, Buildings, Guard Rail,
Mezzanines, Site Furnishings, Stairs, Security Cages and Trash
Receptacles by FS Industries. Your source for material handling
equipment.">
<meta name="keywords" content="Dock Plates, Hoists, Dock Levelers,
Cranes, Conveyors, Shelving, Stairways, Benches, Pallet Trucks,
Buildings, Guard Rail, Mezzanines, Site Furnishings, Stairs, Dock
Seals, Guard Booth, Ships Ladders, Security Cages, Guard Shack, Trash
Receptacles">

You can see why at this time I am thinking that the only thing
crawlers are tuning into is microsoft. I can not find a way to impute
similar information into my source page through frontpage.

Finally to be honest I am not sure what you mean by link. I am of the
opinion you are asking about my website URL

Thank you for whatever help you might be.

There is an Add-in (No FrontPage Meta) at
http://www.jimcosoftware.com/addins.aspx that will remove the generator
tags in your version. FrontPage 2003 has an option for not including
them.

The example description tag you gave is actually keywords, which will be
ignored by most search engines - they get keywords from the page
content.

The description tag should give a very short summary of the content on
the page - not a list of keywords.

Right click anywhere in the page in Normal view, then choose Page
properties. You will be able to enter the Description and keywords in
that dialogue.

TINA: That won't make any difference the meta tags are not the same... the
ms one's say generator and progld ... description and keywords are
completely different its like two humans one is female one is male ..just
not the same.... so no worries there.

What you want to do is insert the necessary meta tags (though some will tell
you keywords don't matter I still include them as there are still some out
there that use them if not mainstream) This is why I asked you what version
of FrontPage your using though ... I should have just looked at your
tag:)... your using FrontPage 2002.

First publish your web to new empty web as a backup .....

Go to the Edit menu - open Find - paste in the first meta you want to
remove <meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0">
In Replace Enter the meta you want to replace it with <meta
name="description" content="ENTER DESCRIPTION HERE">
Select All Pages under 'Find where:' .....below the panes in the Find and
Replace Dialog box ....then make sure 'Find in html' is ticked, then click
replace All when asked press yes. They will all be removed from your website
and replaced by the description .. .Do the same for the other meta you want
to remove .. the keywords you want to replace <meta name="keywords"
content="ENTER KEYWORDS HERE">

What you have to do then ... is open each page ... I would use the folder
list and start from the top and work your way down....

You need to look at the page content and write out a (I'm guessing you have
not given each page a title .... but if you have take another look and write
out what the page is about) for instance

How to clean gutters - How to clean gutters with green widgets

The first is a phrase containing some keywords clean gutters .. the second
takes the first phrase and repeats then adds more description with more
keywords ... Do that about each page of your site for your title... then use
that as the first part of your description, and use this as your <h1>
</h1> Heading tag ... you can use the Formatting tool bar with the first
pane at the beginning .. highlight the text on the page then press heading
one and it will enter the code around the text in html (look to see) for the
keywords use some of the keywords in the title and more from the page do not
use any keywords in the page title the description and keywords metas and
heading tag that are NOT on the page.

You can use Page properties to enter your title... but you will have to open
the html pane and enter your description and keywords where it says ENTER
DESCRIPTION HERE ... (remove this text first)

Do this working your way down the folder list of each of your pages.. each
page is a doorway so you focus on each page and what it is about.. if you
can more content on each page (at least 1000 words that will help your
search engine optimization (in short SEO)

I think there is a jimco addon for a few of these procedures.

Finally to be honest I am not sure what you mean by link. I am of the
opinion you are asking about my website URL

TINA: Yes I meant your website url.

You can delete the items from Example 1 in code view.
The Search Engine crawlers don't bother with it.
