Frustration! where are files/notebooks located??

A

Alejandro

I am able to open both of the two Notebooks that I have. I can find the
notebook/files for one of the notebook in my windows directly, but Ican't
find the other. Does this mean that one is backed up and the other isn't??
How can I find out where each of these two different files are located and
how can I make place them in the same directory location?
When a file/notebook is created, is there an original in one location and a
backup in another?
If I have the original copies/backed up to another location, do I need the
backup.
This One Note is all very confusing.
Thanks for any help.

NO; backing up a notebook is the default

How can I find out where each of these two different files are located and

find out:
place your mouse pointer over the notebook name at the left side bar.
The location will be shown in a tool tip.
change the location:
Method 1:
Close the notebook. Move the coresponding folder (!) with the sections
(the *.one-files) to the place you want. Then reopen the notebook from
there.
Method 2:
File -> Notebook properties -> change location (maybe my wording isn't
correct, cause my ON speaks German).
When a file/notebook is created, is there an original in one location and a
backup in another?
Yes

If I have the original copies/backed up to another location, do I need the
backup.

That's your decision. The default backup will be done periodically, so
you cannot forget it ;-)

This One Note is all very confusing.

All your questions will be answered if you look at Tools -> Options ->
Save or -> Backup

Thank you very much. I used the second method and it was successful. For
better understanding I wish to summarize the following:
I relocated the location of my Notebooks to a section of my directory which
also contains my other data. I do this to make manual backups of all my data
accessible in just one location. For instance my Outlook pst files are
located in this one section. Since I now have my Notebook files in this one
location, and since I manually backup regularly, do/should I really care
where One Note places its backup files? Thanks for your help.

You shouldn't really care...if you are sure, you are the only user.
Otherwise there could occur a concurrent access by the other user(s).
