FTAO - Mike Williams - MVP

Hi, Mike.

You advised me not to multi-post.

I view and post using OE. I posted a defence against your reprimand (under
'Fonts(2)). In a word "Not Guilty". (2 words for the pedantic).

I posted my request, timed locally at 10.08 - exactly the same time as
'oldgit'. I know this because my message appears when I use Search. However,
it is not visible in my list nor are any responses. I posted again, using
(2) so, should my first message suddenly pop up, I could apologise.

I am still unable to see it, nor do I have an answer.

As an MVP, I cannot believe this phenomena has not occurred before in your
experience. Even if not - I think it would be well to add you comment
concerning multi-posting to a solution, if you have one. So saving a lot of
time and promoting the well deserved reputation of MVPs.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to help several people in the two
newsgroups I view - this and XP General. Most without thanks or
acknowledgement. That is why, when not guilty in this instance, I resent the
dismissal of my problem without at least a lead to a solution.

As my question has a response, perhaps you would be kind enough to tell me
in which newsgroup you saw it.

Best wishes,

Ed

Hi Edward,

Are you connected directly to msnews.microsoft.com? I'm able to see
several replies to your "Fonts" post and I use the MS news server. :)

If you are using another server to access the newsgroups, such as the
server provided by your local ISP, then that could explain why you
aren't seeing replies to your posts. Many times other news server do
not synchronize posts correctly and I've noticed there can be a bit of
a lag time between posting and the post actually appearing in the
newsgroup.

If you aren't using the MS news server then here is a link that will
both add the server and this group to OE:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.office.misc

Hi, Beth. Thanks for replying.

I right clicked my "Newsgroup" folder in OE and checked Properties. It gives
under Server/Server name "msnews.microsoft.com" so I guess that's where I'm
at. I still can't see the "Fonts" postings but have no problem with
Fonts(2).

I got the answers I wanted from a different newsgroup -
.....public.word.printingfonts. Two very helpful MVPs sorted me out.

If you come across a cause/cure for this anomaly, it could be very useful
and I, for one, would be very grateful.

Kindest regards,

Ed

Suzanne.

PS.....

Thought I should mention... Hate you to think I was ignoring you!

I'm in the UK and it's late here. I'll be checking again in the morning.

All the very best...

Hi, Mike.
your experience.

Many people post and re-post with slight variations in the text. That I
don't believe is anything but human related. Since I don't memorize every
one of the dozens of hundreds of posts I read in a sitting, I don't
differentiate between logorrhea and twitchy finger/server.
Even if not - I think it would be well to add you
comment concerning multi-posting to a solution, if you have one. So

Perhaps if you cared to read the responses to your other posts.

Hi Ed,

I think you intended for this reply to go to another thread in another
group. (Must be getting late over there <grin>)

Don't worry though, if your reply was meant for Suzanne Barnhill - I'm
sure she noted you are from the UK, given your email address, so I
suspect she knows it's getting late and that you'll follow-up
tomorrow. ;-)

Well - it was an idea anyway. :)

If you find the problem persists then you might try resetting the
newsgroup. Unfortunately it will also reset the read/unread status of
the posts but occasionally that's all you can do...

Thanks for your help, Beth.

I'll remember to mention any invisible posting in future so as not to annoy
anyone!

Kindest regards,
