ftp error 425 when uploading web pages

G

Graham Brooker

I have been using ProntPage 2000 successfully for a few years to upload a
simple 3 page website to my btinternet.com web space. After making a simple
edit of a few characters it is started giving me "ftp error 425 Can't build
data connection: connection timed out" and the upload stops.

Has anyone got any ideas

Graham

Expanding the article Tom linked to, to change Passive mode with FP2000
you have to change it in Windows Explorer.
If it is already set to "use passive ...", try clearing the check box
and see if that helps.

My experience with BTinternet and FP2000 was not good - though this was
8 years ago. The BTinternet FTP servers then were very susceptiple to
dropouts. Using an FTP client such as WSFTP-Home or CuteFTP was much
more reliable then, and probably is now.

Thanks Ronx as you clarified the use passive FTP that kept cropping up when
googling for the answers. I could not see it in FP2000 but I have checked
it in IE and it is already ticked. It works fine now but I agree the BT
servers are not reliable - at the moment I am not relying heavily on my web
page but I shall change my tools and hosting in the future if it continues
to be a problem.

Thanks

Graham
