ftp program

This is associated with my Publisher 2000 website file transferring
operation. (And four other websites I do maintenance on).

I had ProCommPlus, the ftp for uploading my website files. Because I see no
reason to install 32 mb of program I want to change to a more modest program
sized ftp. I'm presently trying out Classic ftp by NCH Software. Not only
is it free but easy to use, BUT! it takes 30 seconds to connect; 30 seconds
to change directories, 30 seconds to upload files. ProComm did these
operations instantly. (I'm on a DSL line).

The interface of Classic ftp is clean, easy to read, easy to operate and
well designed. Due to the slowness of Classic ftp, I'm looking for a
replacement that is quicker. Any suggestions?

Many thanks,

Rob,

AFAIK, Cute is still free but one has to make sure they have the very
latest version, otherwise one gets a message that the trial has expired.
I like it. But I use Filezilla. As David said, it's free. It's also
quite good.

Mike,

Is there a way in Filezilla to have a half a dozen websites? Unless I'm not
seeing it looks like you have to manually input the address, logon and
password for each server.

Don,

It's sort of like subscribing to a NG. I have two, maybe three sites
under my domain, a domain for the Fair, another one for a Civic
organization - both on different servers. I can click to connect which
goes to the last visited server, or on Site Manager which lets me pick
which server to connect to. The only limitation is I can only be
connected to one server at a time. But I can view/edit files (great for
editing php files!), set permissions, move files from one folder to another.

You pretty much doing it just like you would subscribe to a NG - enter
the address, username and password.

Mike,

Thanks for all the help but in the last few hours I found ACEftpfree3 which
looks good, has a dropdown list of websites, great layout and is fast. It
also has sounds for some of the operations which I'll probably turn off if I
find the way. One minor annoyance is a changing ad to download stuff, but
tolerable.

Don,
FileZilla ver 3.0.0-beta10 has an option File -> Site Manager where
you can define different ftp servers.

Arild,

Using version 2.2.32 here and have gotten to know my around it pretty well.
I do work on six websites and found that FileZilla does retain both the
paths on my computer and the paths on the six sites. I am very pleased with
FileZilla and will wait until ver 3 goes to gold before giving it a try.

Thanks for your offer to help.
