FTP upload

Is there a way of just uploading a single page to an ftp address as when I
try FP wants to upload the whole website instead of the sub-domain page.

May I ask a different question re FTPs? I haven't used one in 4 years, but
did extensively before that. Now I can't seem to transfer my index.htm file
across to the Internet from my HD.

The FTP connects and all seems all right. My DSL company did put a test page
up for me and it is index.htm is that the problem, perhaps?

Thank you all very much. I use FP on the other sites.

Dont use ftp if your site is using FP extensions...it will break the extensions and you'll have problems publishing. Your site does have extensions...so forget ftp.

No, its for a different URL that my DSL company provided to me. The ones I
use my FP for are not on the same servers at all. I must use the FTP with my
DSL server space I was told. :-(

I have read the posts in this thread since I last sent one

Rob is more the expert than I - I have only 6 months using the web, apart
from browsing , that is - so take notice of his advice.

My comment at this stage is to remember that you can (and probably should)
use FrontPage Publish in FTP mode to transfer to FTP sites. That is what I
do - my site does not have FP Extensions.

I am mystified that you cant transfer index.htm. You must be able to
transfer your root file , whatever it is named, or the site is useless. I
update all files on my site from time to time. index.html doesn't get
updated very often, but it has been occasionally. Perhaps you should talk to
the site provider.

I was using FTP to upload HTML code before using FronPage, so I
continued using FTP. My server has FP Extensions available, but I
never ask for them to be activated. I've had no problem doing this,
but would assume if I switched on FP Extensions and tried to update
with FP all hell would break loose. Is the close?

No.
"Switching on" the extensions will convert the web into a FrontPage
web. You would have to publish All pages (either from local to remote
or the other way to synchronise the webs, thereafter publishing
changed pages only will work smoothly.

If there are no FP components that need the extensions, then in most
cases publishing with FTP will also work just as well - except the
changed pages only may not be as accurate. The FrontPage FTP client
does not work with all servers, however.

I never used FP FTP. I'm still using the same one I started with, WS
FTP.

What FTP servers have you found the FrontPage FTP client will not work with?

I haven't found one that 2003 will not work with. It doesn't support secure
FTP but that's a different protocol.

It depends on how the FTP server is configured by the web host.

I still haven't seen one that FP 2003 won't handle and another email client
will unless it is set to use secure FTP.

That's why I was asking. I was told there was a problem with CERN compliant
FTP servers but I was able to connect with FP to CERN compliant FTP servers
including the one that the poster said they couldn't connect to.

I think with FP2003 the FTP connection have been improved over previous versions.
