You like that? I hate that. But you can make it happen.

The simple way: find your Normal template, which is the basis for all new
documents. Open it to the size you want, space and backspace in the
document to convince Word there's a change that needs to be saved, save and
close. New documents should then be that size, unless people send you
attachments with different settings, then sometimes Word gets confused, so
it's not a 100% solution.
If you had said what version you had, I could tell you where to most likely
find the Normal template. But look here for how to find it:
word.mvps.org/macWordNew/macWordNormal.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Or you can use a macro in a global template to force all documents to that
size. This is a 100% solution that will always work, but requires slightly
more complicated setup and learning a little bit about templates and macros.
