Function:formula is displayed, not results

I created a VLookup function; I even used the function
wizard to make sure my syntax is correct. The cell where
I created the function shows my keystrokes rather than the
result of the VLookup. The function wizards show me the
result, which is the value I wanted it to be.

But the formula is displayed, not the result of the formula
I am sure the remedy is simple, but I can't fix it.

Hi Malcolm,

The cell was probably formatted as text when you entered the formula. Just
formatting afterwards doesn't help.
First format as general, then re-enter the formula.

Simply clicking in the Formula Bar *after* re-formatting the cell will do
the job.
No need to re-enter the formula itself.

Of course, you must hit <Enter> after clicking in the Formula Bar.
