Functions from File drop down

I have Word 2000 running within Win XP Pro. The
functions available from the FILE drop down menu within
Word are very slow to open e.g Page Setup, Print Preview -
sometimes takes up to 20 secs. This does not happen
with Excel which is almost instant.

I have run "Detect and Repair" but no improvement. I
would welcome any suggestions.

Thanks

If you're having problems with Page Setup and Print Preview (and/or Font,
Paragraph, Print, Style, or Symbol dialogs), the most likely cause is a
damaged printer driver. Try deleting and reinstalling the printer,
preferably with an updated driver downloaded from the manufacturer's Web
site.

Many thanks for your advice. Regret to say it made no
difference uninstalling and installing the drivers from
the web site. What puzzles me is why these functions
work perfectly well in other Microsoft Office
applications, but not in Word. If you have any other
thoughts or advice I would be more than willing to try
them out!

Word depends much more heavily on the printer driver than other apps. Try
selecting a different printer (install a different driver if necessary for
testing purposes) and see if you still experience the same problems. Also,
if you have Norton AntiVirus installed, disable the Office Plug-in. For more
troubleshooting suggestions, see

You are absolutely spot on! I selected another printer
and it works fine. I did put another post out as all the
drop down menus seem to be hanging. But again with
the "new" printer all is well. Having identified the
issue I am not sure what the answer is, but I have also
contacted Canon (I have a Canon MP370). Difficult to know
what to try next!

Thanks again

Suzanne, I have been suffering a similar problem since the installation of
SP2. However, after following your advice to Morrig47, i too am a happy
bunny. Thanks for taking the time to help others out, it means a lot.

Thanks again.
