Functions in Access 2000 queries

Can you still use the old functions Left, Right, Mid etc.
within a query in order to return a portion of data or do
you have to create the function in VBA first?

I've attempted this and get the 'Undefined Function in
Expression' error message.

Please advise if this functionality is still available in
access 2000.

They are still available in A2K (and there are some new ones such as
InStrRev). Your problem is likely to be the Reference Errors.
