Future of BCM???

I was at a trade show last week where MS was hosting a booth and I asked them
about this. It did take me a while to find someone who knew something about
it. But he said, that he was unaware of any plans to release further
updates, but he said there was something coming from Japan that had better
integration with Outlook.

What is the validity of that statement? If true, will my current BCM
contacts be compatible with this new product.

It appears that Microsoft is getting too large for their sales people
to follow the product line.

Last week I exchanged emails with someone at Microsoft that was
starting to "envision" version 4 of BCM.

Version 3 will probably ship with the next release of Office.

Version 2 is really, really, really ready to ship, but held up by
"issues" in the latest MSDE SP.

That's my understanding of how things stand, barring future reorgs and
so on.

funny, thanks luther. i tried that debacle, that human heap of malnourished
code, act! 2005. phew! i can't wait for bcm 2. i wish i had a copy of the
beta. when will it bbeeeeeeeee!??!!

It should be out sometime later in the year - I'd guess late summer, early
fall - MS seems to like that time of year for releases (along with late
spring).

Ahmen Ed! I too suffered the agony of trying Act 2005/7. They may be the most
bloated, un-tested, flaw-ridden bit of code I have ever seen. BCM must run 3
to 5 times faster than Act on my Athlon 3200 with 1 gig of ram. The terrible
SQL engine would take over my machine, eating up over 200 megs of RAM while
the Act app would eat up another 90 megs, then the Act email client would
suck up another 40.

I do miss the ability to customize, the restrictive nature of BCM 1.X is
poor, but I will take it given what I came from.

Can't WAIT until 2.0 release.

I knew going into this that BCM was a first time release and it would be
buggy, but Act has been around for YEARS, for them to take a such a huge leap
backwards in terms of application deployement has cost them many many people.
I was one of MANY who requested and got a refund.

Act 2005 has been out for almost a year, they have had two or three major
releases for it and it STILL won't sync with Pocket PC or Palm devices. This
was standard stuff in Act 5 and 6.

BC is worthless becuase it doesnt integrate with Outook.
MS would be smart to come out with a version of BCM that shares the
same contact database.

Gentlemen,

I have been following this post with great interest as I too have been in
this quandry between ACT vs. BCM. I have found a suitable answer.
Neither. There is an excellent 3rd party add-in solution from Avidian
Technologies called Prophet 2004. This adds a .Net MSDE Relational data
base element that works entirely within the Outlook UI at the object level.
You use the native contact folder with ZERO synching hassles or
requirements. Check it out at: www.avidian.com. This application actually
works very well and is very simple to learn and use.
