Future of XP Server

Michael Drabick

What are the plans for XP server over the next 2-3 years?

We are planning the requirements for our software release
certifications and we would like to determine if the
direction from Microsoft is towards Windows 2003 Server
and away from XP Server.

Thanks,

Michael

There is no such product as XP Server.
Windows XP is a desktop operating system.
The current Server opertaing system is Windows Server 2003.
So your question is not actually valid.

The next release of the Desktop operating system is currently in development
as Windows "Longhorn". We are also in the early stages of the development
of the future Server operating system product.
You can only certify your products on the current products. So if you
product is for desktop use then you certify on Windows XP. If it is a server
product then on Windows Server 2003. And both if targeting both.

What's XP Server? (I know there's a Sybase XP Server, but that's not
what you mean, is it?)

And yes, you can safely assume that MS will push very hard for Server
2003 (aka NT5.2).
