G2007 - "Copy as Link"

D

Don

In a Standard Workspace, I can Copy as Link a filename to send to another
workspace participant. I cannot figure out how to do the same, Copy as Link,
in a File Sharing Workspace. Can someone offer some assistance or a
workaround?

Hi Don,

This is not possible for Groove File Sharing workspaces...

Some considerations...
Do you really need a Groove File Sharing workspace?
If no particular reason, why not using the "files" tool in the standard
workspace?

The latter offers several advantages:
- copy as a link works
- data encrypted on your hard disk
- better (more efficient) synchronisation and use of CPU / ressources
- part of an overall workspace, hence possibility to include other tools
- no immediate synchronisation of date stamps on opening an Excel file,
which limits the risk of synchronisation conflicts

.... and a few disadvantages:
- no indexing of file names and content
- lookup functions (like for an Excel file retreiving data from a 2nd
Excel file) do not work, as there's no PATH.

Please note that there exist a complementary solution for Groove that
allows to search and better manage your documents in Groove: GrooveIT!
for My Documents. It includes search capabilities for files across
your Groove workspaces, a connector to SharePoint, and very useful
add-ons for MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Best regards,
Jan
